Shaped rattle rooster in terracotta. Reproduction of a rooster, animal symbol of the good and linked to the cult of Mercury (Hermes), from which it was thought received divine influences at dawn. The song of the bird was in fact associated with the belief that it alienated evil spirits.
The rooster, dear to Aesculapius (god of medicine), often appeared in opposition to the snake. While the former was an emblem of healing, the latter led to death instead. The ancient Greeks they made him an embodiment of military value.
During the pagan period, his bowels were used to get information about the future and know the intentions of the gods.
