Shaped rattle gallo in terracotta. Reproduction of a rooster, an animal symbol of goodness and linked to the cult of Mercury (Hermes), from which it was thought it received divine influences at dawn. The song of the bird was in fact associated with the belief that it drives away evil spirits.
The rooster, dear to Aesculapius (god of medicine), often appeared in opposition to the snake. While the former was the emblem of healing, the latter led to death. The ancient Greeks they made him the personification of military prowess.
