In ancient Rome and, in particular, in Pompeii, the winged phallus was a powerful symbol of fertility, prosperity and protection against the evil eye. The Romans firmly believed in the protective power of the phallus, so much so that they included it in amulets, wall decorations and even in everyday objects.
The wings of the phallus symbolized the speed with which negative influences were rejected, making these amulets particularly popular.
