Description

The myth of Perseus sculpted in marble

The man exalted in physical beauty, courage, and intelligence.

Perseus cuts off the Medusa’s head, overcoming his inner fears—the ones that petrify and prevent facing life’s challenges. He restores order and security by defeating chaos and violence.

The Torso of Perseus is a reproduction Carved from Carrara marble of Cellini’s bronze sculpture, made in 1545-54, and considered one of the most famous statues in Florence. This statue of the Torso of Perseus represents a part of the hero’s figure, capturing his heroic essence and the physical perfection typical of classical representations.

Greek art, with its idealized forms and the cult of heroism, finds in this reproduction a perfect expression of its style and philosophy. The figure of Perseus has been a popular subject in classical art, with numerous sculptures and frescoes depicting him in various poses and moments of his life.

Its torso recalls the original statues found in archaeological excavations, many of which were part of temples or sacred places where they were revered as symbols of courage and virtue. This reproduction is inspired by these ancient masterpieces, bringing a piece of history and culture into your home.

Historical curiosities

Perseus is mainly remembered for killing the Gorgon Medusa, saving Andromeda—who later became his wife—from a sea monster, and for being king of Tiryns after renouncing the throne of Argos in favor of Megapenthes and Mycenae, a city he himself founded. From his wife Andromeda, he had many children, including Electryon (his heir and grandfather of Heracles) and Gorgophone (mother of Icarius and grandmother of Penelope, wife of Odysseus).

Maintenance

To keep the Torso of Perseus always shining, it is recommended to clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth.

If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth with warm water, drying the sculpture thoroughly immediately after cleaning to prevent stains or halos.

Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the marble finish.
