Vesuvius canvas Andy Warhol (Pittsburg 1928 - New York 1987), Vesuvius1985, gallery of the Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Naples.
Reproduction of the famous work of the master of pop art who had the inspiration thanks to the meeting with the gallery owner Lucio Amelio, who managed to bring it to Naples. The American artist created the work in series, as it was in his style, using different colors but always full of energy and explosiveness.
The Vesuvius work leads to a reuse by Warhol of the acrylic paint that he had abandoned in the 60s in favor of screen printing. His mark on contemporary art and on his visual language based on the seriality and influence of the mass media on the image still remains.
"For me, the eruption is a shocking image, an extraordinary event and also a great piece of sculpture. Vesuvius for me is much bigger than a myth: it is a terribly real thing."
