Historical Curiosities

The fresco from which this pendant takes inspiration decorated the tomb of the Diver. It is an artefact of the funeral art of Magna Graecia of significant historical-artistic value, the only testimony of painting Greek figurative and non-vascular. The image of the diver forms the internal decoration of the tomb's covering slab. The man in the act of diving into a stream probably represents the metaphor of the passage from life to death, a symbol of the journey to the afterlife.

The fresco is unique in Greek painting for its realistic and symbolic representation of the human figure in movement.
