Historical Curiosities
Capodimonte porcelain was introduced in the 18th century by Charles of Bourbon, king of Naples, and his wife Maria Amalia of Saxony. The couple founded the Royal Factory of Capodimonte in 1743, creating ceramics unique in composition and style, capable of rivaling the famous Meissen and Sèvres porcelains.
What distinguishes Capodimonte porcelain is its completely artisanal workmanship and the absence of kaolin in the mixture, which gives it a soft and luminous appearance. Among the most popular subjects in decoration are flowers, mythological scenes and naturalistic motifs, often inspired by the daily life of the time.
Pink roses, in particular, are a symbol of grace and delicacy, representing love, admiration and affection. Inserting floral motifs such as roses into the decorations was a way to celebrate the beauty of nature, making each creation a small masterpiece.
