Roman oil Lamp Satyr with three Fires replica in terracotta, I - II century AD.

Terracotta Oil lamp as a Satyr's head, ancient mythological companion of Pan and Dionysus. In Roman religion  it is also known as Faun. He was often described as  a bearded creature, sometimes with horse hooves, great lover of wine and flute player. His images  can be found in Hellenistic-Roman paintings (as Satyr in the so-called Cicero's villa at the National Museum of Naples and of the frieze in the Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii). Satirs (Fauns)  were also mentioned in book VI of the metamorphoses of Ovid and in Dante's Divine Comedy.

The oil lamps were often used near the doors of the ancient Romans houses, as figures that served to drive away negative influences and evil spirits

Functioning oil lamp in old style is perfect to illuminate your home or as an original decoration.
