Description

Rape of the Sabine Women is a reproduction of the work homonymous in Carrara marble (1574-1580), by Giambologna. The famous sculpture of the rape of the Sabine women represents the scene of the famous kidnapping by the Romans, and it is produced in a tangle of figures that, with great tension, seem to climb one on top of the other.

The masterpiece of the Flemish artist of the sixteenth century Giambologna, depicts one of the most ancient events of the history of Rome, shrouded in legend: the rape of Sabine women, a very popular topic in the late Renaissance. The sculptural group, created with great technical skill by the virtuoso Giambologna, expresses the entire drama of Vicenza: from the shock of the elderly father Sabino to the girl, from the extreme tension of the young Roman soldier, to the top of this tower of bodies, culminating in the despair of the woman who, like many of her sisters, could not free herself from the young man's grip.
