Historical Curiosities
Hippocrates of Cos (circa 460 BC - 370 BC) is one of the most important figures in the history of medicine. He is mainly known for the Hippocratic Oath, an ethical code still considered fundamental for medical practice today. Although there is no evidence that Hippocrates actually wrote the oath, it represents the ethical and moral principles he promoted in his medical school.
An interesting fact is that Hippocrates was one of the first to separate medicine from religion and superstition. While diseases were previously often attributed to divine intervention, Hippocrates promoted the idea that diseases had natural causes and could be treated through observation and study. This revolutionary approach laid the foundations for scientific medicine as we know it today.
Hippocrates also left a significant mark through the Corpus Hippocraticum, a collection of about 70 medical works written by his followers that document the foundations of ancient medicine. This corpus includes treatises on diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, and surgery, many of which remain relevant.
Maintenance
To keep your marble bust of Hippocrates in perfect condition, clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical products that could damage the marble surface. If necessary, you can use a solution of lukewarm water and mild soap, drying immediately with a clean cloth to prevent the formation of stains.
