The Maenads were obsessed and ecstatic women, followers of Dionysus (or Bacchus) who accompanied the processions of god of wine and they celebrated it with orgiastic ceremonies and wild dancing. They were divided into different types of dancers: ordinary, ornamental and extraordinary.
