Historical Curiosities
Capodimonte porcelain was born in 1743 at the behest of Charles of Bourbon and Maria Amalia of Saxony, who founded the Royal Factory of Capodimonte inside the palace of Naples. This factory soon became a point of reference for ceramic art, surpassing the famous Meissen and Sèvres porcelain in terms of quality and refinement.
The secret of Capodimonte porcelain lies in its unique composition, free of kaolin, which gives the creations a characteristic softness and a velvety appearance. During the 18th century, porcelain works became a symbol of luxury and prestige in European courts. Among the most famous creations are tableware, sculptures and decorative objects embellished with golden details and floral motifs.
