Historical Curiosities

The protome, for the ancient Romans, was an artistic representation showing the front part of an animal (and in some cases also people) as  lion, bull and ram which were often used in ornaments and in jewelry. These were mostly made of gold to show belonging to the highest social classes. Often associated with animals considered amulets or symbolic. The lion on this bracelet is a symbol of great vital strength, courage, pride, and royalty.
