The Ponte Vecchio is the symbol of the city of Florence. Above the bridge there is still the Vasari corridor, built by the architect Giorgio Vasari . It was commissioned by the Medici family to cross the city without danger. In fact, it is said that Duke Cosimo de'Medici lived in the Pitti palace, and that he wanted a covered corridor to connect it to Palazzo Vecchio. In the fifteenth century it became important for the commercial activities of the city and for the markets, subsequently for the ' goldsmith art.
