The Dancing Faun from Museum-Shop is a faithful reproduction from a cast of the original, dating back to the 1st/2nd century BC.

The House of the Faun, one of the most extraordinary Pompeian finds, takes its name from the Dancing Faun. The statue of the Faun was intended to adorn the ancient impluvium of the building - a basin designed to collect rainwater.

The Faun is a male figure with thick hair and beard, with strong and sinuous muscles. A flowing tail appears on his back: the Faun is, in fact, a mythological creature halfway between human and animal.

His particular pose, with his left arm and leg tense and his right arm and leg flexed, seems to hint at a dance step.
