Description

Rape of the Sabine Women is a reproduction of the work namesake in Carrara marble (1574-1580), by Giambologna. The famous sculpture of the Rape of the Sabines represents the scene of the famous abduction by the ROMANS, and is produced in a tangle of figures which, with great tension, seem to climb one on top of the other.

The masterpiece of the 16th century Flemish artist Giambologna, depicts one of the oldest events in the history of Rome, shrouded in legend: the abduction of the Sabine women, a very popular topic in the late Renaissance. The sculptural group, created with great technical skill by the virtuoso Giambologna, expresses the entire drama of Vicenza: from the shock of the elderly father Sabino to the girl, from the extreme tension of the young Roman soldier, up to the top of this tower of bodies, culminating in the desperation of the woman who, like many of her sisters, was unable to free herself from the young man's grip.
